The MROA Year book says she is designed by Phil Morrison (Father of Stevie current battling it out in the 40er Class at Weymouth) to his NSM design a good pedigree.

It is an 'NSM 2' built by Jon Turner and called 'Hi-Risk'. This should be a very good boat, particularly on inland restricted waters.

This is quite a special boat as the first built by John Turner when he left Rowsell and set up on his own, also I think possibly the first 'NSM2', also one of the first boats with a low bow tank. The name Hi-Risk relates to the combination of these innovations-new builder, new design, new tank arrangement. She was built for Derek Hanrahan of Leigh Sailing Club-I remember her being launched. A couple of years later Derek replaced her with a similar NSM2 from John but as part of the deal JT sailed this one (the legendary 'Seventh Heaven') for Derek at championship events with excellent results as the Merlin yearbook shows- the ultimate full boatbuilder service?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately its not looking that special at the moment. Previous owner abandoned the boat in the local sailing club, who were about to burn it. The deck varnish has peeled off and there has been some lifting of the decks, some trim has come off and the mast was so weak due to not having any forestay tension, that as soon as we moved it the mast snapped.

On the positives the hull is still solid, the deck although lifted are still solid with no cracks or breaks and everything inside seems solid.

I have just bought a broken hulled merlin about the same age, but otherwise sorted, so I can rebuild and get it sailing again.

I bought 3372 Diamond Smiles in a like wise condition. After cleaning the decks up, I used Boiled Linceed Oil, and Turps, not Turps subs.
First coat 50% oil plus 50% turps, then 2 coats of 25 x 75. It feeds and protects the wood. Then 6 plus coats of varnish.

Cheers Tim for the offer. I have bought a second boat with a damaged hull, which has everything I need. However it I decide to repair this one as well I may contact you.

Broz, thanks for the advice, greatfully received.

Regards Jon
