Being unable to sail anymore and because Jeremy is breathing new life into Panatella and no longer wishes me to hang onto her, Tobacco Road is looking for a new owner.

Apart from short outings such as the Vintage meeting at Cookham (Third), she has spent the last three years in dry storage.

Take a look at Boats for Sale.

'Tobacco Road', she was one of my brother John's most successful boats. At the 1975 championship at Weymouth he and Dave Wootton only had to finish 16th or better in the last race to beat Harry Haynes for the Championship. The one minute rule was in operation, John was usually good at big fleet starts and went for a start at the favoured end of the line. He misjudged it this time and briefly popped out in front of the line. I was watching from the press boat (in those days the Telegraph and Times covered our Championships) and immediately knew that John had lost the Championship.

Yes, Robert, I too remember that final race. Your brother is surely one of the best helmsmen never to have won a championship (along with Phil Morrison and Tom Stewart).

Oh, forgot to mention the incredibly talented David Child in that list!
