MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Bosham classic rally in September

Hi, sadly I'm not an owner of a classic MR, but am very interested in the whole subject.

You may be interested to know we are running (2nd year) a Classic Boat Revival for classic dinghies on Sept 22/23 and would love to see as many classic/vintage Merlins there as possible. Check out the club website at www.boshamsailingclub.com. Last year we had over 50 boats on the line, this year hoping for 70+.

Pleased to say that a classic MR was one of the first to enter this years event!

Like many old dinghy racers we just don't want to see old race boats that might be a bit past their sell by date rotting and unloved in some dinghy pArk, we are keen to see them back out racing where thy should be.

Come and join us to race and party like the good old days!!

Please help spread the word and do come down and join us.

Please get in touch if you need any further info on the Revival event or want to discuss how we can revitalise classic dinghy racing in general.

I'm hoping to go to this with 3245. First CVRDA event ever for me!

Dave you can easily resolve that by buying my classic merlin which is in a garage in Hampton...the number is 1220, I think or it may be 1222, probably 1220...I cant sail it as I live in North America..

It's not 1222 because that is a Restless i think......

We'll be there again with the Albacore since the Merlins are both off the water. It's a nice event, inside the harbour and the club has good catering and hospitality.
Bring plenty of change for the car park though.

Hi David
I put your event on the De May (MR) Vintage cal for our 2012 series. This along with several other events was then coordinated with the CVRDA but no one said it was not a CVRDA event at the time - sorry ! De May events are usually one day only and Sept 22 was the date published. Basically, any merlins in this series just join in and we take points for the series from the days racing. No additional organisation required.
Is it possible to offer Saturday only at £18 as this is quite an expensive event for those not wishing to do whole weekend. I also realise that this would probably not be possible by internet advanced booking.

Hi Ben, Many thanks for the update. Glad to integrate wherever we can. Love to get as many vintage MR's to Bosham for 22/23 Sept. Is there another event we clash with or is it because the event is listed as a De May series event listed for 22nd only? Please get in contact with me at some point so we can discuss the whole scene in more detail with a view to ramping things up a bit for 2013. dej2012(at)gmail.com - thanks

The Bosham event it 6-7 July this year. I am most upset to notice a clash on my calendar which means I can't attend (when you're singing at the O2 you can't just cancel!) but I would urge everyone else to go and enjoy Chichester harbour and the varnished beauties.

It also clashes with the Lord Birkett at Ullswater which we'd already decided to attend before the Bosham date was announced.
