Hi, I’m new here and I recently acquired Wizard of Oz, 1680 of 1964 vintage.

She came with what I believe to be original rigging but I have never seen it assembled. I have gathered information from this website, forum and the like but I would really like to find a drawing or photos of how the drum kicker should be set up. 

I think one answer is going to be: bin it and replace with pulleys.

If that is the case then the next question is: as I don’t intend to sail her myself, should I leave it to the next owner to asses the rigging and modify it to their own agenda?

Either way I would like to know where the kicker should connect to the boom. There seems to holes and rivets with no purpose on this boom.

Mast and boom are ally Proctor items.

On the boom the older spars had a key / key-way about 3 ft or 1 meter back from the gooseneck. Later spars had a slider with an eye to adjust the kicker take-off point. Either is fine but if you have the old key type you may struggle to find a replacement if its lost. The wire/drum kickers were quite a good engineering solution providing plenty of purchase but they didn't release quickly and wire wasn't very popular with crews!. Cascade systems using rope/blocks are the preferred solution now as its easy to lead the adjustment to each side of the boat.

The flexible wire for the drum kicker frayed and then the sharp strands were pretty hazardous.  Substituting dyneema should work well.  I remember finding a way to get a lead to both thwarts with a block off the end of the line but it was somewhat Heath Robinson.  It certainly gave plenty of power and would probably be easier to let off with dyneema.  The traditional way it was rigged was to a cleat on the centrecase behind the thwart IIRC from 1498.  If you are not intending to sail the boat yourself I'd definitely leave the next owner to sort it out!

I've just been around to the lock-up where the boom is kept, with the intention of measuring the fittings, and forgot the tape measure!
There is a slider track on the underside of the boom, roughly in the middle and with two sliders, both used by main sheet blocks. Before I posted here I assumed the kicker shared the rear slider, which is at the end of the track.
I think the next owner will want to update a lot of the rigging but I would like to get it into a usable condition before I move it on.
 
I'll do an update for Youtube soon to make it clearer.
In the meantime I'll check out the CVRDA.
