What can anyone tell me about this boat?

What are the chances of finding a second hand carbon mast to suit? Would in need to be extended? 

This is a Procter Mk. XII built by Bob Hoare at Christchurch and completed by the original owner in 1961/62.  Named "Firebird II" she was based at Waveney & Oulton Broard SC.  Her name was later changed to "Let It All Hang Out".

You shouldn't have any problem  finding  a second hand Carbon mast but expect to pay abut £900 for one. It will almost certainly be the modern 21ft (above-the-deck) length and deck-stepped which is what almost all modern boats use now. Having owned a simiar boat to yours I would imagine you have a hog stepped mast and it may have the tall 22ft 6in rig. 
 
It's quite simple to add a short extension to a carbon mast to make it suitable for hog-stepping and this will allow you to use second-hand, modern sails which will be made for carbon masts. I'm only guessing but I would think about £100 would cover the conversion. Converting a 21 ft mast to 22ft 6" is a whole differnt ball game and probably not worth doing. If you want go that route you would probably be better off buying a new rig altogether.
 
If your aim is something like the De May series then it's best to stay as traditional as possible because they hadicap modern rigs. If you want to be super competiitve on a river then the tall rig and carbon will give you an edge in the light winds -but at a price. I think my advice would be to sail the boat as it is for now and see how you get on before spending lots of money. You can do lots sorting out the basiscs and getting the boat working well. A new suit of sails might be a better investment, perhaps bought in October or November when discounts are on offer. Have a chat to others with simiar boats at some open meetings. I'm sure others will have differnt views (there's no right or wrong way as such).

I can only really reiterate what Dave has said.  I would stick with an ally mast/boom, which I assume she has, and look for a newer second hand suit of sails for the existing rig.
