This weekend, Tenby Sailing Club confirmed to the MROA that they consider it 'very unlikely' that they will be able to host the 2020 Aspire Merlin Rocket National Championships due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is therefore with a heavy heart that we must now cancel the Tenby Championships and make the 2021 National Championships in North Berwick the best yet!
 
The MROA committee have met on a number of occasions to discuss the championships, trying to balance any disruptions associated with delaying the decision against the possibility that the situation might improve in time. But on Friday, the RYA Cymru laid out their plans for opening up boating which made the championships unrealistic in the eyes of Tenby Sailing Club and the MROA Committee.
 
So, what’s next? We are pleased to confirm that the class has booked Tenby for our National Championships in 2024, the earliest availability in both our calendars. In the meantime, we look forward to getting out and sailing as soon as government guidelines and our own personal judgement allows. It’s great to see local clubs opening back up and we should all grab this opportunity to relish grass-root sailing with our friends and neighbours. 
In addition, we can also look forward to the 75th anniversary celebration championships in 2021.  We’ll be pulling out all the stops, with pro PROs, on the water judges and close racing against the beautiful, Scottish back drop, and 75th Anniversary celebrations! It won’t be one to miss and will feel even better after the disruptions of this year.
 
Entry to North Berwick will open in the coming weeks. For those who have entered, we’d be delighted to move your entry to 2021 or to refund you if you’d prefer. Let’s get as many signing up to 2021 now so we can have something to look forward to!
 
Please keep your eyes peeled about updates regarding the inland championships, EGM and other surprise events later in the year. The committee will meet again very shortly to discuss plans going forward and will keep you in the loop as much as possible.
