Topic : Salcombe mooring for motorboat

Having sorted our support crew accommodation out we now need to sort some accommodation for their motorboat which will be providing plenty of lifts from salcombe to mill bay.

The harbour master has apparently offered a mooring round at batson which is inaccessible 3hours either side of low tide or alternately somewhere ‘out on the mud’. Can people provide any advice as to whether there are any other options?

You could talk to Winters Boatyard at Lincombe or Yeowards in Island Street who own their own moorings that they rent out.

The harbour may be able to improve their offer as the time comes nearer, bearing in mind that peak demand is in August.
It might also be worth checking the tide tables, as we pick the dates for Merlin Week to try and get high tides predominantly between 10.30 and 16.00 as best we can.  I note that it is looking quite neapy that week with low tides pretty much above 2m; to give some perspective I can get in and out of the outside pontoon at Batson on 1.9m.

Sounds as though you are talking about a fairly large boat.  RIB's and small launches can just be tied up (for a fee!) at Whitestrand though there is quite a scrabble for the end of the pontoon as at low tide there isn't a lot of water there.  Fine if (like me) the boat is small enough to drag to the water.

You can time things so that you can have your boat on the water during low tide, which may mean an earlier start for the driver.  There is the ability to tie up on the main pontoon for a period of time, along with the time on the water watching the racing, which will allow you to use the boat on the Batson Moorings.
