Topic : Jib sheets

Hi, I've just purchased Merlin 3493 to get back into sailing and have sussed all the rigging but strangely I'm having problems working out the best way to rig the jib sheet .... so apologies for being thick, I'll just describe the problem and pose the questions in as simple a way as possible;
1) does the jib sheet go around the lowers & shrouds or inside?
2) On the gunwales I have a 'hole' with an internal wheel and a cam cleat.... and on the deck at either side of the c-board I have a ratchet

So from the foot of the jib would someone please describe the best route for the sheet .....
Thanks and best wishes
Martin

From corner of sail, the sheet should go under lowers and inside shrouds to the block either side of the centreboard, up and through the hole in the deck to the clear.

A lot of boats (mine included) have a continuous jib sheet so start at the corner of the sail, inside everything to block on floor, through sheave on deck, across boat above everything except the kicker, through the sheave on the other side, through the block on the floor and back to the clew of the jib.

Just wondering what rope people are using on sheets?

Been experimenting a bit.

Currently have a set of the Marlow Excel R8 in 7mm doesn’t run through the blocks very well though so probably looking at a new option.

Martin, you may also have barber haulers on the foredeck that the jib sheet can go through, usually at the gunwhale about a foot in front of the shrouds.  The jib sheet goes through this before attaching to the jib, which allows you to reduce the amount of twist in the jib downwind, usually adjusted with the cleat underneath the jib cleat on the other side of the boat.
