Topic : Rutland training Weekend 29th & 30th April

Richard Whitworth has sent the following information regarding the 2017 training weekend.

The Merlin Training Weekend is on the 29/30 April 2017 at Rutland Sailing Club.

There is on-site accommodation and camping nearby.

We’ve taken on board the feedback and we’ve built on our previous years to deliver a weekend of events that are even better than before.

We’ll be looking at the core ‘non-racing’ skills of communication, teamwork, boat handling and starting, building up from the basics to enhance each boats capabilities over the weekend.

The main emphasis is to focus on internal improvement (from each individual boat’s starting point) to practice and develop a method of continual development and synchronising the helm - crew objectives and techniques.

With the lessons learned from last year there will be more structure to the programme, more video feedback and analysis with possibly a little less time on the water (it’s all about getting the balance right)

We’ve maintained the 2016 pricing and under 25s get a special discount!

The food will be inclusive for the weekend, so you don’t have to faff about with carrying cash in your sailing gear and we’re negotiating a BBQ for the Sunday evening. which everyone is invited to (Monday ST attendees more than welcome, please book a ticket in advance, it’ll be a great social)

This is undoubtedly the hidden jewel in the Merlin calendar. The event in 2016 had the best mix yet of youth, Silver Tiller aspirants, new MROA members and mid fleet/club boats all looking to improve their game and generally understand what it’s all about. Your enjoyment for this year plus your ST, Salcombe and Nationals results may depend upon it!!

Our coaching staff are made up of Champs, Inlands, ST and Open winners, as well as master craftsman able to assist with ‘boat bimbling’ on site. So come and make use of the weekend.

The Merlin fleet is a great place to pick people’s brains and to answer all of your questions and this goes even further when you get to know us, it’s what the training weekend is all about!

Drop your boats on the Friday night at the club and we’ll kick off the festivities at the Wheatsheaf. Another great Merlin tradition to participate in and enjoy.

See you there.
