MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Merlin Rockets at the Dinghy Show

I was at the Dinghy Show on both days and thought that the MR stand was one of the most popular and well attended. To see 'Gently' alongside the latest creations from David Winder and Jon Turner told a story about a development class that only David Henshalls 'Real Magic' could match.

Congratulations to all who organised the stand and attended as representatives of the class - and especially to Paul Hollis, who has been doing that job for more years than he cares to remember.  Loved the cake and the Prosecco, Paul.

Then there was the masterly dissertation by David Henshall on the 70 year history of MR evolution. 70 years in 33 minutes - some feat! Pity the RYA saw fit to relegate his talk to the back end of Saturday.

Yes - many thanks again Paul.  Fantastic looking stand, all three boats looked stunning and the stand was busy all weekend.  The cake and prosecco have kicked off our 70th anniversary celebrations, of which there is still the big party to come.  Thanks to Chris Barlow for maintaining Gently for us, and bringing her up to the show and also to Jon Turner and Simon Potts for allowing their boats to be displayed and bringing them along.

I agree with Keith - David Henshall's talk was fantastic, and well attended considering the timing.

Finally - thanks to everyone who came along to chat, it doesn't just make the day go quicker, it makes the effort worthwhile!

Thanks to all,
I visited the stand on Saturday and enjoyed looking at the 3 boats on display, a very Darwinian sailing experience, evolution at its best.

It was great to meet some that I have been chatting with on the Facebook sites.

Morning All

Knowing how much goes into co-ordinating and setting up a stand (B14 these days), appreciate what Paul goes through each year. Stand looked great with Gently on display. Wonder how many noticed how the deck laminates were put together. Char Jones who had not seen her before, think it was an eye opener on how narrow and small the cockpit was

Nice touch the cake and Presecco. Was appreciated and we both got to enjoy on one of our visits to the stand

Some nice new tweaks also on the new Simon/Alli ship and of course John's very nice Genii which you would not think she had done a season's work

Lets hope there are some nice suttle tweaks coming down the line that will keep those that like innovation entertained

See all soon in the Merlin

Oh and forgot to say, for those of us that attended David's talk on Saturday, very interesting and time passed quickly. Shame it had not been kept in its original slot as think it would have been veru informative to many who take what they now experience in sailing for granted

Oh and on the way to the show, I'll take the low road and Dave you can take teh high road round Muswell Hill (Buses got in the way during our race to Ali Pali) ;)
