MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Merlin rocket for sale

Hello all. This is a very long shot but I have what I have been told is a merlin rocket for sale. I inherited it around 5 years ago and since it has been sat in a barn, I have no knowledge at all on boats etc but I know it needs some work done. Pictures can be supplied to anyone with interest. Any help would be appreciated! Many thanks.

Hello, Could you post the number of the boat onto the forum please? It will be carved into the inside of the hull of the boat somewhere, and someone will be able to identify the boat from that if it's a Merlin Rocket. Posting a photograph on here would really help too. Best Regards, Gavin

I will try to get pictures and the number tomorrow. It's located on the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire boarders.

Hi all. I was planning on washing the boat off today and getting some good photos but i can get it out of the shed as it has a puncture on the trailer. I have found some pictures i took a while back if they are any help for the time being. Also i am having trouble finding the number on the inside of the hull?

Hi David, The hull number is traditionally carved on either the thwart or on the hog just behind the back of the plate case. Also, in the old days, the Merlin owners used to paint the number of the boat on the tiller and rudder to help prevent them "walking".

Thanks Chris. I will try to wash it down, sort the pictures and number tomorrow. How do I go about posting pictures on here, would I need to subscribe and post them in the for sale section?

Hi David,

I've never done it so have no idea. Try Martin Smith (see Committee contacts) who maintains the For Sale list.

He simply needs to post some pictures of the boat to determine whether it is a Merlin.  You did not need to be a member to do this surely??

Put some pictures on facebook or somewhere, then just tell us where to look.

It'll be easier to put them on Flickr or somewhere like that and link to them.

At least then we can probably tell you what you've got. Then do a for sale and send it to Martin - if you don;t know what you have it's going to be difficult to sell it

Hi David
Whilst the number, referred to, is vital does the boat have any sails ?  Are they white and does the main sail have a black triangle and a number on it. Is there more than one main sail ? Just to add a bit of encouragement to this mystery !

Hi Ben, I'm in the process of getting the puncture sorted so I can get it out of the shed and get some good pictures. I litteraly have no clue about boats, I just inherited it so sorry if I struggle to grasp some of the words you use! It has the main mast but there are no sails. I still can't find the number but it is in a dark shed covered in dust so I will try to find them when it's clean and in day light.
