Topic : Merlin Week 2015

Thank you to everyone who came to Merlin Week, to variously:

Race/Volunteer/Spectate/Support/or perhaps most wisely of all, given the nature of the last race, Just Holiday.

Whatever your interest in the class, I would like any feedback you have about the 2015 Merlin Week, be it negative, positive, or left-field: any way is welcome.

I will then pass this back to the SYC committee upon which lately, I do sit.

Could you email me please, at:

Thanks

Hi Graham,

Many thanks to you and Fiona plus all the team; race team, safety boat crews Jools, bar staff et al, at Salcombe for the programme scheduled this year and the fantastic weather you laid on. So glad my flight was not sailing in Race 12. Just watching was like having your toenails pulled out. Can't imagine what it was like trying to get round X - twice.

Huge positives from this year and can't wait for 2016 - cottage already booked.

Will drop you a line privately and look forward to seeing you both at Whitstable. Best wishes to Jayne for a speedy recovery.

Dear Ian and Angela

Sincere thanks for this; we were but a small part of what happened so we will ensure your kind message reaches those who helped.

Next year we will crib your idea of the daily SMS message service (as at Looe)  for important announcements and general news.

Race 12: we were one of the few beneficiaries of the dreaded X mark. As we came back to X for the second time I am sure there were the same boats still down tide from our first rounding: Salcombe...

Best Graham and Fiona

Yes another great week and good to catch up with old and new friends.

We had a birds-eye view of  X mark (literally) from our house which was directly above. I had my heart in my mouth as Chris and Caroline came up...  really felt for John Turner who sailed a great race in second only to get stuffed big time. Still worst things happen at sea (apparently!!).

Regards,

Dave

I was actually on the rescue boat downtide from X.  There were boats which had been swept past it and were indeed stuck there for quite a little while...
Indeed we couldn't move the X mark closer to the line as the race officer wished as there was never a time without boats trying to round it and once the lead boat had got round for the 2nd time it could not be moved.  I was glad to have been out in the morning.

Big thanks to everyone involved in the organisation at the club and in the class, another great week, now back to reality back at work!

FYI Graham, to do the SMS alerts at the champs, a secondhand  cellphone was donated for nothing and fitted with a £10 Voda PAYG SIM card giving unlimited texts for a month. Could be expensive on the wrong tariff otherwise...

SMS: Thanks Ben. Good tip. Plan to have SMS/Twitter alerts next year. Especially as the Salcombe venue is geographically challenged.

Thanks to those who have responded direct to me by email. Much appreciated.  Graham

Great week well done SYC especially to Graham and Fiona. Bizarrely by Sunday I wanted to get back on and have more Salcombe week, the X mark race has plainly become just a forgotten nightmare! roll on the next regatta...

Have to say that I really enjoyed the week, though being Black Flagged on the last race meant that I didn't get to experience X mark, though did virtually every other mark that Salcombe YC had to offer.

Great work by everyone involved to keep such a wonderful event going throughout the years.
