StuW could also join as an Associate member for a mere £15 a year and get the excellent magazines as well as the YearBook. Worth every penny.

I liked the cover...less is often more. \r\n\r\nDidn't Leonardo leave the Class in a huff after his 'helical rig' idea was kicked into touch?

"Hi Megan,\r\n\r\nSounds like Mum & Dad are enjoying the Mag...they keep saying things like 'nice picture' and 'that's interesting'. \r\n\r\nWe almost got in trouble when the Mag arrived though. The edges of the Handbook and Mag had come through the envelope at both ends and although it did look a bit like Angus's work, it wasn't us...honest! \r\n\r\nFlora & Angus"

If you don't like the yearbook may I suggest you do it next year? I am looking for a replacement as I am not sure I will be able to spare the 3 months it takes me to put it together this year. \r\n\r\nFor those of you who have been members for a long time you might remember the old style covers of just a title and logo.

"OK I hold my hands up! I 'designed' the yearbook cover - it's the only part of it I had a hand in.\r\nJeremy asked me to do it again, as I have for quite a few years now.\r\nI was struggling a bit to think of a new idea - it seems to me that each year should be different, so as to make it obvious that it is a different year.\r\nSo I went back to first principles. Years ago we just had the triangle on the cover and changed the colour each year - that was classy but got a bit boring. Hence all the designs recently with multiple shots to try and illustrate the various aspects of our class. I felt they were getting a bit sammie too, so I thought lets use the emblem - but in a slightly different way.\r\nDoes anyone like it?\r\nOf course the Year Book is all about the incredible amount of info inside. Jeremy is meticulous in getting all that stuff right - well done."

"Actually, I liked the cover alot, you should be proud Pat, great artists such as Leonardo, Duhrer and Matisse all used B/W line drawings in some of their strongest work, I personally felt it was a very powerful use of the class logo, dramatic and with great impact."

"A great mag - as usual. it really does put every other class magazine I've seen in the shade.\r\n\r\nBut when I saw the yearbook, I wondered if war had broken out - no nice piccy on the front cover, just a monotone logo. Has there been a directive from the Ministry of Daft Ideas about preserving the nation's stock of coloured inks?"

"Great mag and year book, as always. Cheers for the photo feature, Jeremy! \r\nHas anyone else taken a look at the Nationals top 6 over the last 5years? What a line up of the best sailors in the country!\r\n\r\nQ. What do Craig, Gilbert, McGrane, Stewart, Davis, Turner, Potts, Fells, Whitworth etc etc all have in common?\r\nA. They all race Merlin Rockets!\r\n\r\nWhat an advert that would make!"

Is the cover an un-announced colouring competition?\r\nOr did the magazine crew argue over the boat colours and end up saying "Each colour it your own way!" :-)

Hello Megan,

Indeed, patiently awaiting for my copy. And, to reinforce your request, I must tell you that just last month I received a second copy of the Fall magazine edition. This one in a white envelope. Both of your mailings made it to the USA. No need to resend.

Thank you!

Julio

Hi Megan,

Sounds like Mum & Dad are enjoying the Mag...they keep saying things like 'nice picture' and 'that's interesting'.

We almost got in trouble when the Mag arrived though. The edges of the Handbook and Mag had come through the envelope at both ends and although it did look a bit like Angus's work, it wasn't us...honest!

"Is it possible to get a copy f the class handbook without joining the association as I don't own a merlin but spent much of my youth in and out f the class and am very interested in the history of the class, I know Dougal is working hard on his new book and have a copy of the original Jim Parks, Ian Holt production but this does not have all the info in it. If the association can't help are there any members of this forum who could help me? Thanks for reading"

"Another great magazine Patrick Blake (I'd call him Pat but others might think the praise was directed at them!) and thank you for the work of the highest quality and dedication I love the cover of the year book, simple and to the point, but then with my Danish connections I appreciate simple design, the year book too enables us who no longer race MR's to keep up. So thank you Jeremy as well."

I have recently returned to Merlins after 20 years sailing F15. What a joy it is to get the mags and year book which are a really useful read. My God the boats have moved on in 20 years but I like a challenge! Thanks.
