Sadly I cannot make it this weekend as I must earn my crust and stay at work. Is there anyone going who could jot down the trophy winners for me at the prize giving?

It would be most helpful and save me alot of time trying to work it out from results! I have a list of the trophys to make it easier that I could email across to you.

Thanks Jez

Sailed at Grafham last weekend. They still have the killer creyfish. They power wash your hull and trolly after sailing, so none escape.

My 18-year-old daughter is keen to do this event and I would very much like to encourage her to go and try the Merlin experience, she will borrow my old boat and probably have fun at the back of the fleet but I see from the NOR that helms must be members of the MROA to enter. I am a full member so what is ths score on this one? It would be a shame if this probibited a young helm trying the class. She is a very experience sailor and 29er helm so shouldn't get in the way of the "pro's".

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave C
I am happy as you are a full memeber to let your daughter have a go I will know someone will shout but the more youngsters we get to try the Merlin then the better it is for th future of the class. By the sounds of it she is not going to effect the overall results greatly.

I bet she does better than you expect! But then I would say that as she is going to be sailing an excellent boat!!

I agree with paul. I think there are times when rules should be relaxed to allow development of the class, but appropriate times.

Have fun, I am only sorry I will not be there to join in myself!

Thanks Paul, much appreciated. I hope she will move into Merlins once she has done with the youth scene. If she has a good week-end it could make all the difference! She is also bound to tell her sailing pals around the country so there is some PR value here too! (Jez, I expect she will make a better job of starting than her old dad did in Salcombe and do the boat justice!)
Cheers, Dave

Hi, Thank you for letting me race at the weekend as a non member. I had great fun and hope I didn't cause too much disruption around the race course for all of the other competitors. I am really keen to do more racing in the Merlin next year as either a helm or a crew. I am off to university next year so may not be able to afford funding my own boat (anyone looking for a keen crew!). If I manage to steel my dads boat again I was wondering if anyone had a spare moment to teach me more about how to set up the rig to its best potential.

Thanks
Abbie
