Christian,

Where are you, and which boat have you bought? There may be someone local who would be able to help.

Christian, are you in Malta or somewhere? I saw another post on the forum from you. The sizes of sails have changed over the years. The measurements you need are from the black band at the top of the mast to the gooseneck (add 0.68m to give the height of the rig) and the length of the boom to the black band. The size of the jib should be written on the boom but if this is an old boat it will very likely not be readable any more. If you are the only boat in Malta then just making sure that sails fit is the important thing. Have a look at the pictures on the website to get an idea about what all the ropes do and where they should lead. It would help to know the sail number of the boat, which should be written on the thwart or on the hog behind the centreboard case.

Merlin 2871 was built in 1974 by the owner to a Keith Callaghan design - Hormblower. She was originally called "Cabaret" but this was later changed to "Gillygog". She seems to have spent all her life in the East of England on the Norfolk Broads and the last record of her in the 1990's she is located at Rollesby Broad SC.
