Topic : Where to sail on holiday?

Hi all,
I think I have a problem that others may recognise. Whenever I'm on holiday on a glorious mediterreanean beach, all I can think is "God, I with I had my merlin here!"
Can anybody share their experience of good dinghy-hire places they found abroad?
The best I've come across (apart from multihulls) was an extremely beaten up Laser in Egypt!
Help me get my fix!

Mark I think you have hit the nail on the head yourself the boats you hire will in the main not work very well (ropes will not run etc.) and break frequently, why not take your MR with you on car-top if necessary.

Find out if the nielson places at Flnnikunda (can't be arsed to google for the spelling) and Porto Heli are still open for dinghy business. From memory the boats were generally well maintained and the RS boats were a lot of fun.

John,
Thanks for your help. I've looked into Neilson, but I think they only do package holidays and they won't just hire out boats to passers by, even with certificates. You have to go on an entire Neilson holiday, and I'd never convince the clan to go in for that, especially as they're quite pricey.
I used to work at Galloway SC, and they did loads of business in the summer just hiring out dinghies firs come first serve. Not yet found anywhere like that where the water is warm!

Garry, thanks! Lake Garda looks amazing. Was the water cold, looks like it could be glacial?

Next door to the Club Vass windsurfing centre in Vassiliki is a catermaran and dinghy place that will hire out boats (rented a Laser 3000 from them) I think they might be called Wildwinds or something like that. They had awesome parties too.

Pro - vela in mar menor. used to be a team unlimited then neilson. You get your own digs and book in for as much time as you want in whatever boats you want. Not been yet since it's Nielson days but its a 17 mile lagoon which is waist deep and always force 3-4 in the afternooon. They have foiling moths and other high performance craft.
