Topic : MR 2127 Sorceress

I am restoring the above Merlin and looking for advice The following list I'm sure is not complete and things will be found as I go along. There is some rot in one corner of the transom and the planks in that area These planks also have damage by the thwart so I'm hoping to scarf new planking from there aft to the transom It will need a re-deck and repacement on gunwales. Although I'm confident in doing this some of this woodwork is new to me. All advice will be greatly received. I do have pictures of the boat if anyone would find them useful in offering advice.

Tjhe above Email is my home and [email protected] is work

Hi,
I have worked with wood a fair bit. The most important thing is geting the wood dry, so you can work with it, you would be surprised how "rotten" wood can turn out with a good dry out and treatment of epoxy. Basically get the boat as dry as you can (leave in dry space with de-humidifier if possibel) then asses whats rotten and whats not. Get measurements from whatever is rotten, see how it is attached, then cut it out.
