MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Looe 2008 - Final (maybe!) update - still a couple of places left - get in touch if you want to come!

Well then folks - 'tis nearly upon us! Bythe time you read this, Michelle and Andy will be in soggy Cornwall, sorting out the final details. There has been no stone unturned in our quest to provide a truly memorable sailing and social experience.

In case you're unsure, the brad schedule is:

Saturday - arrive in Looe - measuring and registration from 10am. Bollard bloke will let you in and give you maps for the trailer park and car parking stuff-if you've booked it. Next, some kind Looe folks wioll take your boat away and park it in your space, allowing you to ditch the offspring and their copious beach entertainments.

All details will be in your entry pack which will be issued after you've been weighed and measured, but the briefing will be at 7.30 in the sailing club.

Sun - sponsored by Speed Sails: Race 1; Commodores and Mayor's cocktail reception in the sailing club Cocktail dresses/blazers; prize giving at 2130hrs - 2 tickets with entry

Mon - sponsored by Harken UK: Race 2 and 3; pasty and cider night in the club - 2 tickets with entry. Prize-giving at 2130.

Tue - sponsored by Rowsell Sails: Race 4; Fancy dress disco: 'superheros and cartoon characters' - we wait to be amazed! Prize-giving at 2130.

Wed - sponsored by Winder Boats: Races 5 and 6; Championship dinner - by ticket only - there may be a couple left - please see one of us in Looe! Black tie, 1930 for 2000. Prize-giving at some point. Band and dancing until late.

Thurs - sponsored by Pinnell and Bax: Race 7 followed back to back by the crews' race round the club marks and watched by all! Crews' union, Rubiks cube challenge, and Ranelagh trophy prize-giving too! Awesome...

Bigg Friday - sponsored by Matt Biggs Clothing: Race 8, followed by the final bigg prize-giving. Should be an unmissable evening, and Friday night - is Boscarn night!

Can't wait, and look forward to meeting you there. Any questions, please get in touch.

The champs team said
"Don't worry, it's under control! The Champs organisers are currently asking a selection of the fleet whether they will help out with daily reports, and we will endeavor to get these onto the forum and Y&Y as soon as is possible the following day.
"
the operative words are 'the following day', so I guess we will have to wait a few hours yet to find out what happened today.

This came in last night but I wasnt able to publish until now. Will add it to the MR site now, so you'll see daily reports appear in the box at the top of the forum, or on the bottom right of the homepage.

Racing was binned today as too windy.

Since they have two races to make up (unless they really did cancel rather than postpone?) presumably they'll do an extra one or maybe today? The weather being doubtful down the line with two bloody great lows hanging around in the North Atlantic heading eastwards, let's hope they do not move or change direction.

Day 4, have finally found an internet cafe and its 2 o'clock and racing is finally underway! After two postponements and two general recalls they have started the first race of the day, much less wind today and lots of rain...

Have to dash, Hugo has woken! Will hopefully have more exciting info next time.

p.s. Fancy dress disco last night - huge success!

See on the webcam some boats being pulled up the beach already but only 14.35 so presumably the race is not over yet - black flag victims ?
