MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Championship reporting

After last years media black hole can we be assured that there will be regular race reporting etc. for those of us stuck at work.
Many other classes (Solo's, Lark's, Scorpion's and many more) manage daily reports which are posted on Y & Y. These give a brief race synopsis and results.

Of course you can Mr Harris, perhaps you could put in an offer of help too, that would be nicer than moaning in an unconstructive manner without even the courtesy to add your name. Next time please email a member of the committee with your concerns, worded in a more appropriate manner.

Indeed it is to be hoped for! We are aiming to produce a daily report (the scribes are already lined-up), along with results. This should be available at several sites,
notably this august portal, the champs site at www.bestchampsever.com, Y&Y, DSM etc.

As I am sure you will appreciate, there is much to organise for the Championships, and some, inevitably mostly problem rectification, must take place in the evening after racing. This may, although we hope not, impact on publication to the wider world. Should a gentleman/woman of leisure wish to accompany the class to Looe, in order to perform the role of keeping the wider populus informed, we would of course encourage them, however our primary concern is to the 160 competitors and their families, who are actually attending the event.

Meanwhile, we still have only one vacancy remaining after Essex in a Shed's late confirmation of attendance!

Rest assured we will be submitting daily reports of the champs. It is often difficult to find the time (and internet connection) to do so but we'll endeavour to keep you up to date during the competition.

Mags,
I'm sorry if you find it unconstuctive and moaning but it's what happened last year. Of course I understand that for those on holiday / competing it's a bit of a chore but there are many at home / work who are often desperate to know what's happening and it's good PR / advertising for the class and it's sponsors. Might offer to help if I was there but a little difficult from 300 miles away. Happy to help put your toys back in though.........;-)

does the club have a wireless network or a computer connected to the net? I'm sure a couple of us could gather with a beer and type up a bit of a daily report each day. We did do this last year but couldn't find an internet connection. Also I think it required a fair bit of editing......

Don't worry, it's under control! The Champs organisers are currently asking a selection of the fleet whether they will help out with daily reports, and we will endeavor to get these onto the forum and Y&Y as soon as is possible the following day.

We had feedback right at the beginning of the year that this was something that the class would like to see, so it has always been on the agenda. LSC will help with the internet access.

Looe used Sailwave last year so even if you just publish the results to date - a quick few clicks - it would help

You don't have to attend the event to offer to help. Being on the other end of a phone line qualifies.

Alex and Andy I am happy to make some contributions but do not have any sort of mobile typing apparatus except an old Underwood manual in a black plywood box that is not going to be easy to connect to the internet. Also I will not have seen 1st hand what happened at the sharp end. But if you are after a team reporting approach in the bar before we have all got beyond all care?

I would if desperate,
write the report on a PC. Transfer file by wire to BBerry. Send report to someone by bberry. cut and paste to forum.

workaround from transient worker.

Now there must be a cleverer way!

Mags,

You've already got my email address from when I sent you photos of Wotnot, so if you want to make contact with me directly, it is possible that I could help. I was hoping to be in Canada that week for the Contenders but am now tied to a UK location, a right bummer!! The easy way would be for someone- such as yourself, to get the salient points of the days actions, ring them through to me, I'd write them up and submit them.
Would that help?

Thanks David, although I won't be at Looe either, so I'll be the one at home ready to publish! I think Alex has got plans for how to handle things at the Looe end.
