Topic : New to MR 2196

Just aquired MR with 2 suits of sails both with different numbers. 2196 is the number carved onto the dinghy and she was built at Aln boatyard. Is this the correct sail number? If so would anyone know any history - is she a Summer Girl?

Also would Redditch Sailing Club be the nearest to me to get going? We are 12 miles West of Worcester.

Will be joining MROC for 2007 - the website has been really useful and interesting.

Thanks

The number carved in the boat is the only one that matters!

According to the Yearbook, 2196 is an Expectant design called Mr Wonderful and first registered in 1969.

Redditch was a member of the Midland Circuit a few years ago. There are still some Merlins there. We always got a warm welcome and we thank the sailing club.

Bartley is a lovely piece of inland water and we will be having another Merlin Midland Circuit event there in 2007.

Alternative is Midland SC where the fleet is competitive at the new and mature end of the national fleet.

2196 'Mr Wonderful' is an Xpectant designed by Martin Jones and built in 69 by Aln Boatyard for W Myers, 21 Swindel Rd, Pedmore, Stourbridge, Worcs and Bala SC.
The 1976 YB shows a new owner. G B Elliott, 37 Highlands Drive, Burton-on-Trent and in 1977 the owner was recorded as M Cousins, 219 Musters Rd, West Bridgford and Nottingham SC.
By 1979 she was owned by D Hooley, Middlehey, Southwell Rd, Oxton, Notts and had moved to Notts County SC.
The 1980 YB shows a further change. The owner is recorded as J Swain, 42 Rolleston Drive, Arnold, Nottingham and back to NSC. I think he/she is the last owner shown in the year books.

Thanks for the information

I will probably spend a few dark nights sanding and varnishing to rejuvenate the boat

a few dark nights, I had that idea about 2 months ago and I am still not finished, I think it will all be worth it when the good ship 3408 "as yet unrenamed " is launched on the waiting public
good luck with 2196
