full members are for boat owners

but both full and associates members get the magazines ( 3 per year plus a silver tiller guide and yearbook)/stickers and entry into the silver tiller and nationals etc

also a training weekend is done which is great

The real thing for me though is you feel part of a great class which for me has the best boat in the planet and meeting some lovely people on and off the circuit

Thanks for the replys.

I have an old, slightly modified, boat with tatty sails. I have no intention in racing it (yet) as I would have to buy new sails and a spinnaker. As membership is more than I payed for the boat (but not more than I have spent on it). I use it to sream across the lakes overtaking everything I see. I am trying to work out weather it is worth it, but it would seem that I would be spending my money just to access a couple of extra web pages.

This sounds a bit like a whinge. It isn't, love the web site, it has given me a lot of usefull information.

EDIT

sream should be scream, and you probably need to add some brackets to make it make sense.

If "old" is 25 years or more then just come and sail with the Vintage wing and the cvrda. You don't need new sails, in fact cvrda handicaps make old sails an advantage!!
We've sailed all season with a well-used 35 year old mainsail and had a really enjoyable time, seen new places and met lots of friendly people.
Just do it!!

The website is not relevant to membership really - you're paying more for the magazine, yearbook, legal stuff that lets you race at open level.....but mostly for the class to be able to operate and stay alive!

Do re-read the last 2 paragraphs on the link I posted above.

Membership is not altogether about receiving tangible goods for your money. It is also about providing the Associations wherewithal to maintain the Merlin Rocket society to achieve proper governance, organisation of a complex range of events, competition management and entertainment.

Health, security and the pursuit of happiness. (Read that somewhere)

Put in a standing order for membership then forget about it.

That is right.

Chris,
I think you might be missing the point.
The association exists for the class - the website, the magazine, all the events - vintage and non vintage, maintaining the trophies, the history through the year book - etc. etc
None of these things would be there if it was not for 'the association' - which is actually just a group of amateur enthusiasts working for free on your behalf.
So to paraphrase the late JFK - 'think not what your association can do for you, just join and help us - after all it is not much more than a round of drinks once a year.'
I think it was something like that anyway!

I agree 100% In terms of the overall cost of sailing the membership fee is a drop in the ocean! The advice and general welcome you get at Merlin events whether they be Open or Vintage is great and worth every penny.
