Topic : Proctor Mast

Some time ago i asked for help in identifing a mast that came with 2040, i had a kind response and was asked to measure the distance between the two black rings, not understanding at the time what was being asked for i replied with the full length, i can now confirm that i am older and wiser and ask the same question but this time with the measurements between the two black bands 577.4cm, can anybodt help?

Looks like a 21'6" rig but why you need to know?

That boat number is pre Beta-minus so presuming it's the origional i'd say it's almost certainly a Proctor D.

Thanks Chris, to the observer it would be nice to know what sails fit, who has a set for sale and in case you was in any doubt i am picking up the threads of sailing after being away from it for 25 years and class my self as a novice (for the time being)

I have a Proctor D section hog stepped mast measuring 5867 with 2425 foot which is confirmed as original by first two owners and have discovered that secondhand sails to fit properly are as rare as rocking horse poo!

We have a secondhand set from a newer boat which we've given up with as they don't seem to fit well - maybe came from a deck stepped mast - and the batten won't tack (and we're used to tricky battens!) so we've gone back to our original 1968 and 1971 sails.

I'd like a newer set to fit this mast which sounds identical to that above so if anyone has got secondhand please advertise. Otherwise I'm looking for a sailmaker who is used to these old masts and boats. Merlin 36 has just had a new set of sails made to order for its wooden mast and they are going really well!

Try Dick Batt, he certainly has built 'old' style sail plans, my last suit came from him, that was on a hog stepped Bad Company.
