Topic : Looking for 1194

Hi, a friend of mines dad is looking for any info on an old Merlin he used to own. I reckoned I could probably track it down for him with the kind help of some of you guys. So if anyone has any idea about 1194 or photo's of it, results, or its where abouts please let me know. Looking forward to hearing from some of you.....Oli.

I remeber this boat quite well.
In 1962 she was called 'Medea' and owned by George Smith at Banbury SC.
My brother Chris bought her in 1967 and in 1968 moved to Grafham SC. He sold her to R W Braithwaite also at Grafham who renamed her 'Hooligan'.
By 1975 she was back at Banbury was bought by Richard Bailey. In 77 or 78 he sold her to M Lidgard of the same club.
In 1984 she was called 'Red Dragon' and was still at Banbury owned by P & J Llewellyn.
By 88 she was again called 'Hooligan' and owned by M Blater or Slater, 35 Moat Lane, Solihull, West Midlands. He or she was the last recorded owner in the year books but no club is shown.
I think it might be worth enquiring at Banbury SC to see if she is still there. Otherwise a call at any of the following clubs around Solihull might be rewarding.
Barnt Green, Draycote, Redditch, Shustoke or Midland.
Hope this helps.

Correction. It was Richard's father Roland Bailey who owned the boat in 1975.
Add Earlswood and Olton SCs to the possible list to call.

Not now at Banbury and fairly sure she has not been there for at least 12-15 years if that helps to narrow things down - at least one less club to call.

I would suggest that the boat probably spent time at Earlswood, though it isn't there now.

Talking about tracking down old cherished boats - does anyone know what happened to my dads old boat (Mk XII) 1034 Aquilla III. I'm not sure if I saw it in the year book...

Many thanks,

Andy

The year books show "Aquilla" to have been at Trent Valley SC from 1962 to 1994 and probably from new in about 1960. In 94 or early 95 she was moved to Hoveringham. Last owner recorded as S Pegg, 62 Hine Avenue, Newark, Notts NG23 2LH.
