Do any of you experts have advice on the finer points of fitting a new slot gasket? I'm particularly interested in what overlap (if any) you should have and someone mentioned to me about cutting a vee at the rear to let the water out?? |
How about taking a look at this one for a start. I'm sure there are plenty of Merlin specific challenges that others can advise on but this is a good start. http://www.angelfire.com/de2/WIT/MikeMacOnGaskets.html |
I followed this advice more or less but I used a length of neoprene pond liner from a garden centre (in Leamington Spa) off a roll for mine - you get loads of it for a very low price and I think it will last well - lovely and flexible too. Should resist water well!!!!!! |
We got slot gasket and glue from LDC - they were the cheapest mail order. |
I recently did mine, used dacron folded on itself and cost about £12 the chandlers cross stitched it for me. got enough for doing it again to... |
Thanks for all the info guys. Any suggestions on overlap? Wayfarer site seems to say about 5mm but I have heard 1.5 mm best. Does it matter? |
David Child has emailed me the design of a gadget he used in addition to a slot gasket. http://www.merlinrocket.co.uk/gallery/view_photo.asp?folder=gallery/rigging_guide/hull_fittings&file=slot_gasket_spring_strip.jpg |
