Topic : New Merlin owner

Tried before with no replies so I thoght I would try again!  I've just bought 3055 after sailing ospreys and an 18ft skiff and wondered if there is a definitive plan for a rudder(which was missing) Also it has a new kite pole and mast which is deck stepped can i fly the new larger kite and what size main do i need to get thanks pete

You can have any rudder you want.
I like mine to be nice and deep.
As for the main, you'll have to do the calculations from the size of the jib that you have got.
Or, measure the black bands on the mast and boom and do the sums !!
Have a friendly chat with your sailmaker and local class sail measurer.

Thanks for that i'll get my local boatbuilder to help design the rudder and look round for some used sails

Peter,

Welcome aboard.. Your measurement certificate should give you the dimensions for your mainsail, however if you weren't given the certificate when you bought the boat, call the RYA technical department and they should have a copy of the original which will give you the info. Your boat was new at about the time that rig sizes became more or less standard, so I can't be definitive about what is right for you.
