Topic : MROA Membership

I'm considering joining the class association but don't want to have to pay £25 now and then £25 again in January. Are there any deals such as at our sailing club, whereby those joining after 1st September get membership up to the end of the following year for only one year's fee?? (i.e. Join for next year and get the rest of this year free)

I asked the same question of the class membership sec. last week and have not yet received a response. It is no big deal for me as we will not be ready to go to any events until '06 anyway. We have not collected the boat yet! Would be nice to join sooner rather than later.

I would recommend that you join now. Ijoined the association a few weeks ago. The information that was sent was excellent, with backdated copies of the magazine, the yearbook etc. It really was excellent value for money, and the articles in the magazines were useful regarding tuning.

And you could join as an associate now for £15 and upgrade to full boat owning membership next year. (all this years magazines and year book should make it £15 well spent)

Mike,
I am a bit confused, are you telling me that '[email protected]' does not work? If so the link on the site should be removed. I obviously could pick up the phone, but email is easier.

Yeah, the 'money' email address works fine.

Dear Another New Owner

I did receive your email and tried to reply by return. However, I have just found the reply stuck in my outgoing mail folder - so please accept my apologies. The mail has now been sent so you should get it really soon.

It arrived, thanks. For 'newbie' here is the key part of the response!

Regarding membership of MROA, at this stage of the year we would usually ask you to join for the current year, as the season is still in session, and then renew in January. If you were to join after 1 November, however, next year would be free. In your case, given that you are not getting the boat until November, this would seem to be the route for you. I will happily process all your details now but activate your membership on 1 November if you would like. You can send a post dated cheque (for
November) or a standing order for 1 January 2006 onwards, together with your application form.

All seems very clear and sensible to me!

I'll probably wait also as there's only one event we may get to before 2006. Didn't I read that you don't need to be a member to take part in Vintage events?

I think you are missing the point....

Dear Newbie,

We actively encourage all Merlin sailors (whether vintage themselves or their boats) to join the association; it is because the association is, and has been, active that your vintage Merlin is worth any money at all!

Please do join - 1st November will be fine, and support the Association in its efforts to promote the class. There are some stunning events planned for the 60th Anniversary year - members only!!

Look forward to seeing you,

GGGGGGGGGG

Someone else is missing the point - I want to join for 2006 onwards but being skint I don't want to spend out unnecessarily for 2005. Refitting the boat is costing enough.

Alternatively you could all pay more taxes so us poor public servants could get a pay rise.... :-)

Newbie

To answer your question. Very simply I certainly am not aware of any deals on reduced subscriptions if you join this or any association part way through the year.

You are clearly not planning on joining this year so would hopefully you will consider joining this excellent association from 1 January 2006?

Having joined Forfar SC they offer a deal (one annual sub)from the middle of September which lasts to the end of the season the following year. This allows an extra 6 weeks sailing and pulls folk in a year early -seems to work well.

Hi folks

Just to clear this up - if you join on or after 1 November you will get next year free, plus all the backdated mags etc for 2005 (while stocks last). Please don't feel you have to wait until next January to join!!!

Regards

Treas.
