Topic : Championship Reports

When you get to my age it doesn't take much to confuse one.
However there is a set of fotoboat photographs of the Championships on yachtsandyachting.com
But no report at all on any of the yottin' web sites.
Do the sponsors a favour, put something down on paper or into the ether.
All very bewildering.

I am fed up with all this moaning about the lack of reports. As one who has written many reports for YandY and this website I know just how difficult and time consuming it is. We do not have a professional full time PR man so reports have to be written by competitors. If the writers are as knackered as I was after the fantastic champs they will need time to regroup and collect their thoughts, let alone catch up with post, emails, work, wives etc.

So - Give them a chance

Perhaps Ancient geek could get out of his wheelchaair and come to events to write the reports

Agree with JC.. Look at the fantastic report Alex wrote for Y&Y while it wasn't out straight away it was worth the wait..

Perhaps whilst Ancient Greek would use his real name whilst slagging off those who put in so much hard work to the class.

Alex has given up a huge amount of time writing previous reports and towards organising the champs. I sure he had a few more priorities this week namely work and sleep.

I have visited Alex on many occasions late at night when he has been writing reports for Yachts and Yachting or preparing PR material for the class.

For the record the report is in the process of being completed and your comments are very much unwelcome.

I almost forgot to say - well done to Alex for getting the class a 3-page spread in the latest Y&Y magazine - in the shops now!

It's a great article in Y&Y. Well done Alex.

Got to agree with all the above, except of course Ancient Geek. Have spent the last two/three days, when time available, writing up a report for my own club's website. This is a feature just from the perspective of our own club's boats. It's got to be a lot harder and more time consuming to write a report/feature on the week's events that covers it from everyone's point of view.

So Ancient Geek, why don't you dig out your typewriter and/or quill and get yourself down to the next event. And if you can't do that, you could always check out the hosting club's website for results etc. I believe HISC posted results on their website every day along with weather conditions, so you could have created something 'nut and boltish' type from that alone.

Taking a leaf out of Alistair Campbells book why don't we use the winter months to devise some pro forma Champs reports leaving the names blank then during the 2006 Champs week all that has to be done is to fill the names in and hey presto - instant reports!!

At last a posative suggestion rather than personal attacks! It should be simpler even than that Y&Y has it's own pro-forma. But since these things are these days on a compoooter then surely it can be done electronically if not automatically. I hate to add to MAGS burden (He does so much already.) but clearly he is "better than your average bear" at this computing thing.......................but perhaps he could suggest something?

Ok, er...hows about audio reports? On the way home from the meeting in your car, dictate your view of the days events. Slap it onto the website as MP3 or stream, and everyone can listen on Monday. Or perhaps just record a few snippets from the bar after racing?

Mags great suggestion but would coherency be a problem apres racing dans le pub?!!!

Hows about this as a first draft proforma.

After ---- general recalls the Black Flag was flown and the fleet finally got away with --- boats disqualified. Alan Warren made his customary port end start and only hit --- boats in the process.
The wind was a steady / variable southerly / westerley or other and the sun shone / it ws overcast or it rained.
The usual pecking order was quickly established with (delete as appropriate) Richard WHitworth / Glen Truswell / Dave Winder / Tom Stewart hitting front and opening up a lead of --- boatlengths.
It stayed this way until a bloke who was, in the past, very successful in Merlins returned (having had a bit of a breather) and won the race /week (delete as appropriate)
