Topic : two string raking rig

I would be interested to hear the opinions of those people who have changed from the conventional rig set up to the two string rake/de-rake system so beautifully engineered on the newer winder boats. Is this a must have?

'tis revolutionary! So much easier to rake/de-rake which means that it's beneficial to do so at windspeed changes much smaller than it was previously worthwhile bothering with. This must make a difference!

whats this new!! auto raking rig. I set mine up in 1994 and it only needed one string and a leaver.
pull the string at the top mark rig goes fwd, pull in the main at the bottom and it went back!! to the correct previous setting.
and even this was a mod/advancement on Alan Jacksons trials in 1990.
And i even had it on my nsmII
I would also like to know where the kicker is lead from, If it the hog then you will need to adjust this as well with the mast move ment.

It's a very clever system that adjusts lowers, shrouds, kicker, forestay and puller at the same time, and the purchases are calculated so that everything moves proportionately so that no further adjustment is required to keep the rig set up. Actually, you'd be surprised how much it alters the jib sheeting angle such that if you move the rig the amount of tension induced in the jib sheets is phenomenal. The other ends are all free too so that adjustments can be made within a given rake setting.

I'm not familiar with your system Dave, but did it do all this? If it did then it would appear that everyone is a decade tardy! The really clever bit is a car carrying a couple of blocks that Dave W designed. Also the fact that at the different points of the course the wind helps move the rig in the wanted direction such that the loads in 'the string' are remarkably low.

Ive got this system on Jupiter, it really helps and i marvel at it but you still need to be doing smaller adjustments to the rig tension, kicker and lowers so dont think you just completely sit back and let it all happen
