Hi, Last year I finished restoring number 338 - 'Chippy Too' but know very little about the history of the boat. I found it in a barn near Barnstable in 2005 and it is finally on the water and I was hoping someone here might remember the boat or have any info on it?

It was built by Wyche & Coppock I think about 1950 and is in amazing condition for its age! There is a link to some images if your interested although I was not very good at documenting the restoration.

I am also looking for any oldish mainsails that might be available for sale, I have one nice old main but would like a day to day sail with a slightly more modern cut (maybe 1980's) but will still go up a wooden mast track?

You need to come and sail with the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association as well as the Merlin Vintage fleet. Great looking Merlin Rocket.  Nice to see the wooden mast.

Chippytoo is a Rocket. The record books have very little info. on her. In 1960 she was owned by R C Pratt who was a member of Hickling Broad SC. It would appear he owned her for many years but after 1980 there is no record of another owner. She looks in stunning condition. I own 235 "Squirrel".

Identical to Gannet No 252 except that Gannet has no stern decking.  I will be at Clywedog with her and then again at the CVRDA Nationals at Bough Beech at the August Bank Holiday all being well.  Do try and come along!!

Thanks Mike, that fits well with what I do know, there is a disk from Hickling Broad SC still on the boat from that era. When I found the boat I don’t think it had been in the water since the 80’s and what changes had been made seemed to date from that time. I did not know it was built before the classes were joined and was a Rocket, so again thanks!

Hi Garry, I found the info on Gannet helpful for the restoration and hope to make it to some CVRDA events in the future!

I have a number of old sails from early merlins, If you want to look through them you are most welcome, gald to dispose of one.
