Topic : Wanted - lifting rudder

Does anyone have a lifting rudder kicking around their garage that they no longer need? I know the fixed ones are preferred these days but sailing in the creeks we'd rather have a lifting one. It doesn't have to be in perfect condition by any means, just sturdy enough for the job. Cheers

As Merlins don't have rules about rudder shape, you can use anything big and deep enough. Not many people selling them around here as a new Winder one is £500+ complete.
Consider other classes.
There's a laser 4000 one on ebay.
Not elegant, but it might get you around the course without ripping the transom off if (when) you run aground.
Good Luck!

A 4k one might be a bit extreme, but anything off a Fireball, N12, Lark or similar will suffice. An RS 400/200 one will also do, heavy but bombproof!

I wouldn't say RS400 rudders are bombproof, I have a broken blade right here...
If anyone has a damaged repairable modern winder lifting blade, I'd be interested, as I've got hold of a stock.
I think on the N12 website (or is it Cherub?), there's a good article about making your own.

I was crewing for Dave - Kite up force 3-4 tight reach and rudder parted company! I wouldn't trust another Rs400 rudder!
