Topic : Help - brunzeel ply

Unfortunately Merlin 3546 Gilt Complex was involved in a major prang at Salcombe just before Easter, so is currently sitting in Kevin Gosling's shed undergoing repair.

To make the repair good as new, Kevin is going to replace the entire port side deck. The problem is that she was decked with stripey brunzeel ply, which apparently is no longer in production - does anyone have a sheet they would be prepared to sell, or know where I might find one?

Failing that, Kevin reckons he can get a very close colour match using ply from Robbins, but the wood grain will be somewhat different. Obviously grain varies from sheet to sheet anyway, so I guess I can live with that, but it would be nice to keep it all decked with the same material.

Thanks in advance

As I guess it is an insurance job, then they should pay for the whole re-decking to match, shouldn't they.

You might give Linton a call as he had some to match Heaven Sent's deck a couple of years ago, admittedly only a small patch

even if it's the same manufacturer it wont match, best wisit robins and select or do it all.

Whatever you do it's never going to match unless the whole lot is done - the old stuff has has 10 years of UV light on it for a start!

If the old wood is taken down to nothing and sanded down till the colour is effectively virgin you have a chance, but you then run into problems with the thickness of the veneer.

It's either the whole lot replaced or the sidedeck replaced and the rest reveneeered for me.

Actually I'd only just got 3546 back from Tim Coombe who had stripped and sanded the decks before building up a new 2 pack finish - she was looking as good as new, if not better :(

Given the quotes for replacing the port side deck, I think it unlikely the insurance company would pay for a full redeck - there is nothing wrong with most of it.

But a car insurer would have to pay for a full respray even if only 2 doors were replaced...

If they couldn't match the paint.

Dave,

I was under the impression that it was not available in the UK but still available from another country in europe. I know a man that may know the score I'll give him a ring.

Dave,

I'm not sure if its the right type but Silvermans advertise Bruynzeel ply in their marine ply section on their web site.
