does anyone know of any plastic merlins for sale around about £3500 or below?

Mid budget plastic boats are few and far between. £3500 should get you a Turner Tales in reasonable nick with a carbon rig but you'll have a wooden deck so won't be maintenance free. Not a problem provided you have either the man hours and skills to keep on top of it, or the money to pay someone to do it for you.
There are only about 15 placcy Turners built, they are still sought after and thiniking of it there is one on Ebay as we speak. 3470 "Rebel Yell" has painted decks as well so should be lower maintenance but has been raced hard, as have all them.
Alternatives: not many really! There are a few all plactic NSM IIs floating around, the best were built by Dave Ovington. They tend to be a little heavy, but proved popular inland especially at Wembly SC hence the nickname Wembley OD.
Bob Hoare and Patrick Allam also built composite NSM IIs. should be quick in the right hands inland but popularity eluded them.
Neither of those two will cost £3000, the most you should expect to pay for a placcy NSM II is £2000 if equipped with an alloy rig. A few have been carbonised and will be a little more expensive.
Best advice is to search on ebay for Merlin Rocket and put a bid on Rebel Yell. Better still email him and see if he'll come to an agreement privately and point out that it'll save him hundreds of pounds in ebay fees.

I think Rebel Yell was Guy Woods old boat, that was bought by Graham S at Hampton and not used much for the last 2 years. Well worth a look at, as a starter Merlin.

does it have a Carbon rig ?? - Why wouldnt you advertise it on the Merlin Rocket website ? seems strange

It's 3477 not 3470!
Looks like an M1 in the photos. I don't remember Jim Hopton having any carbon on it, and i suppose Guy bought Carrera as a way of upgrading the rig so i suspect it's still got the M1.
As for why ebay, that can only be answered by seeing up to date photos or looking at the boat.

Chris
You are right. Really to sell a boat you do need up to date photos given posted given the 'armchair shopping' society we live in.
I sold my Turner Tales recently through posting an up to date picture, which was supported by genuine trust.
I have just bought an OK from a chap at Cookham SC from looking at recent photos sent to me because quite frankly I could not be a&*ed to do a 100 mile round trip only to say 'nah, not what I was looking for'.
Evryone is different though!

Must say that i have had my Star Rocket on the second hand list for quite some time but no one wants to come and see it. It is a great boat and needs to be seen. However i put it on e-bay and sold it no-probs, unfortunatly he never picked it up or paid me!
It is still for sale by the way!

i contacted rebel yell, what is a resonable price for it? it is a turner canterbury tales according to the previous owner Guy wood

It really does depend on condition, etc. I recently sold my Turner Tales 3478 which was immaculate for £2,500, which I believe was priced right given the relatively low cost of a 2nd hand Winder tales for sale, so this might give you an idea. I do believe with 3477 the shell is a Turner CT's (if genuine should have a 'T' number routed on the right hand side of transom internally possibly 'T3') but was fitted out by A.N.Other/owner, plus the other unusual feature is it has a space frame and little if no foredeck. I have a better picture of the boat which I could forward to you if you let me have your email address.

[email protected] after contacting Guy wood, previous owner of the boat he has confermed that the name of the current owner of Rebel yell is called Jim Survell

chris it has also been confermed that the canterbury tales 'Rebel yell' has no carbon rig on it, but it was one of the tales that was designed by the formula 1 team, it was also second out of the mould.

It is actually owned by Graham Shuvell. Knows a Shovel to people who know him. I expect it is on E_bay as I doubt he ever became a MROA member. Subject to sails, cover, trailer, etc the boat is worth around the the price it ios on e-bay for, give or take.

Rebel Yell was the first moulding taken from the mould (T1) but Savage 3471 was finished by Turners before 3477 was ready for measurement and registration.

And Savage is still pretty quick beating Tom Stewarts old boat yesterday at Starcross. Of course Thunderclap 3466 was quicker still but I'm sure there'll be another post filling in the details there!!!

Hay Peeps, nice to see me old bateau has generated a nice little discussion on this brill website. Think amongst you all questions have been answered as to history of boat. Just would like to confirm T2 (I`ll be back!) is stamped on her rear and finished of by Mr Bob Hoare. PS Twas only the spaceframe that was designed by the chap from Lotus, but she is practically indestructible as Deepy & Mr Jim Hopton will verify. Will keep an eye on this thread as to any more questions. PPs Merlins Rule!!! PPPs Tom BP If you is reading this have awesome time in OZ and what a send of?? Cheers Felix for use of flat later Guys ALLLLEEEZZZ!!

I note from the Wembly SC website that Alan Broadbent is offering his GRP NSM with Carbon rig for £3500. e-mail [email protected], phone 020 8868 7452

Al Broadbent's NSM2 MR3535 'An Bradan Feasa'* is possibly the best Wembley OD around. Built by Ovington, she's an Open winner X 2, dynamite upwind and wicked on restricted water.
