Topic : Best way to renew rigging & where do I buy ropes?

Hi everyone, I am a new sailor to the scene and I need some help.

I want to replace all the old wire rigging on my baby (MR 3493) before the spring. Does anyone know what the best way is to get this done?
- Go into chandlery with old rigging?
- Hire crimping tool and do it myself?
- Mobile rigger who will come and do it on site?

I would welcome any names and recommendations. Likewise, am planning on replacing all sheets so if anyone has some good recommendations of good priced suppliers and service?

Many thanks

Scott

Thats Cloud 9 isn't it?

Best bet is to take the boat if you possibly can, or at least the old rigging.

As for who, being a midlander i'm not sure but i'd suggest Tony Blackmore at sailsport or LDC should be somewhere near your neck of the woods.

Chris,

She's actually one of Bob Hoares Canterbury Tales.

I'll take your advice and send in the old rigging.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Hi Scott,

Good bet for you would be Welsh Harp at Hendon Broadway, while they may have been a bit misguided in the past in promoting the MRX, they are thoroughly good chaps and will be able to help you out. Call Geoff on 020 8202 8677.

I think you are in Kingston. There is in fact a reasonable rigging service at the Thames Ditton Marina in Portsmouth Road where the chandlers keep a small stock of dinghy fittings as well as a lot of stuff for the Thames motor cruisers (also epoxy resin and paints and varnish in good quantities - open on Sundays in the summer). They have made up wires for me before, you do need to know exactly what you want and they won't carry much Vectran or Dyform wire! They do however have all the equipment to swage shroud terminals etc. The Welsh Harp are much better in stock and knowledge albeit further to go
