Topic : Winters @ Wembley - come and join the fun

Wembley MidWinter Trophy and Winter Membership

Jim Park has raided the trophy cabinet and dusted off a an ancient artifact known as the Merlin Rocket Midwinter Trophy.

We have thus decided to run an open series this winter to drum up some competition from our friends and neighbours (you lot).

We have now confirmed 3 dates Jan 16, Feb 13 and Mar 13; 6 races 4 to count trophy and plonk for the first 3 boats
(if you aren't there when the prizes are given it will go to another deserving candidate)

Our normal winter programme is two races on Sunday morning first start 10 am second start noon; we may be able to rustle up an afternoon session if we can get rescue cover. Another idea may be to do some training in the afternoon (we are open to ideas on that).

We are opening our doors to winter members for £55 Oct-Mar Helm, Crew and Boat; you can also leave your boat in the dinghy park
The series will cost £20 for all 3 weekends or £10 for each (we may be able let a few boats sleep over).
You can also turn up any Sunday and pay £10 and join in with the club racing. Remeber first start 10 am so get there by 9 to give you rigging time.

We would love to have you all along there are some shiny new boats to spar against and we can show the MRx fleet some clean sets of transom flaps.

Look forward to seeing you all after Christmas - when the trees have no leaves.

All the best

Note the last few Chichesters have been cancelled - so don't be downhearted come to Wembley instead. The dates are carefully selected to miss anything important - except the Markham's skiing.

fleet is going up so well
We need to plan our open circuit together which should include sea events and an attack on the river series.
Could Wembley not be a river with the river brent flowing in ?
sorry know im not using the forum properly

Alternatively sail this winter at Tamesis, we had 14 out last Sunday; Passing Clouds, Adur 7's, NSM11's and Canterbury Tales. Great for the train spotter...

We will get a squad to your open event next year though

Think the London Merlins should have some sort of travellers event. We dont all sail on the Thames which i might add is a girls blouse of a river compared with Scottish rivers such as the mighty Tay

Dear Col B

Wembley's open WAS part of the Thames series this year as well as last, recognising that the Welsh Harp is much like a river but without the current and with the weed. Which other London area clubs are there with a significant home fleet that could join a local series? None, I think. What does occur to me is that neither Whitstable nor Shoreham are very far away. Adding in those clubs would alter the nature of the Thames series completely, but would it be for the better? Time for another forum thread on this maybe?

I happen to know that all Scottish rivers (such as the mighty Gay oops I mean Tay) are Thames wannabes.

The good chaps at the Harp have been doing a sterling job keeping the weed at bay so it has not been an issue for the last couple of seasons.

We hope it will remain so for 2005 and that our Open and the Topmast in September will be a glorious and weed free weekend.

2 Boat Teams will be expected from all the key clubs. We need to persuade the Hollingworth boys to field a team to extend their illustrious record - you know it makes sense. With pro judges on the water it's end to end stuff.

Well blow me ( not literally) never knew that the Wembley open was part of the series.personally i think it would be great to extend the Thames series to include Whitstable and Shoreham as think you ned a balance of different types of sailing and i for one am completely ___ in waves downwind and need the practice. ( like i mean tosh goes faster than us)
Wots with the river gay , just because we press our wild heather collections

Just spooted that the warming pan is on 12/13 March - we can shift our date forward - probably to before the dinghy ex. ie. 27th Feb

Will confirm

Can confirm that last date is 27th Feb.

And if last Sunday is anything to go by it should be great stuff.

Anyone not sporting a cracking hangover should come for the Wembley Wassail - A smashing pursuit race; often claimed by the rocketeers.

If bloody cold, and with the lovely smell of part burned diesel fuel from the A5/M1 and North Circular, mmmmmmmmmmmm!

To the out of tune harpist. The wembley sailing club at the harp provides excellent close racing. Improves boat handling and team work plus easy quick launching. Not many clubs can offer 2 good races and off the water by no later than 1.30ish The proximity of road net work is a plus for accessibility.
Oh yes forgot to say Never as yet had a wiff of diesel odour save downwind of previous message writer Look forward to a good turn out on sunday

Could be breezy - maybe a NW 5. Come and have a go if you fancy a fast and furious dash on Sunday.
Remember there's plonk up for grabs.

Big thanks to the visitors today, was great to see you. Sorry it was all a tad fetchy but good racing nontheless.

Sorry about your mast Tosh , at least all the bits fitted into your lovely coloured van. Calling Jacko.

Dont think they should break in those conditions

Bit of a blast with some decent gusts to add more excitement. Plenty of place changing and a decent amount of swimming. The MRx fleet struggled with their BT surplus stock telegraph poles.

Tosh and Jacko have developed a folding mast based on those tent poles with the elastic down the middle; fold it in 3 and pop it in the pink combi - cool.

Remember it all kicks off again in 2 weeks
