This year the committee has appointed three youth representatives, all of which are making it their main goal to encourage more youth sailors to sail Merlins; and make the class more accessible to them. Freya Lillywhite has been crewing in 3750 for her dad in the last few years after moving into Merlins from Twelves. She’s hoping to study Biology next year, but currently on a year out to travel around Asia. However, you can be sure to find her in the bar at any events this Summer as soon as she gets back! Will Wilkinson joined the Merlin Rockets, from mainly being a casual sailor, in 2022 and mostly crews 3772. He does his best but unfortunately takes after Bambi on skates. As an engineering student, he is often trying not to spiral into despair. Find him lower mid fleet (on a good day) and camping in his car at every event.
 


Ollie Meadowcroft has sporadically sailed Merlins since 2015, often in the front of his dad’s boat 3666. You’ll most likely find him around the back of platinum fleet attempting to claw on to the front pack. He’s planning to make his helming debut on the Merlin circuit this year, which should be easy compared to sailing with Freya in a 12 last year. Like Will, his engineering degree contributes greatly towards his desire to escape to the water at the weekends, and just be warned you don’t start talking to him about boats - he may never stop…
