I am sorry to report that Andrew died earlier this morning.
He had sailed Cadets , National 12s , and Merlins usually as crew although he had helmed a Cadet and after retiring from crewing sailed a Laser for fun.
In the 60s and early 70s he had not only raced at club level but had also attended Cadet Weeks at Burnham ; three Burton Cup Weeks ; a Hornet National Championship ; 4 Merlin Championships ; Salcome Week (when it was shared with Fireballs) ; and numerous Merlin Open meetings
He had retired from crewing in the mid 70s but lived throughout his life in the same house in Whitstable. He will be missed around the town. He still enjoyed talking about Merlins and those who sailed them .

Morning Richard, just seen on the club website. Sorry to hear that. I had not heard he had taken a turn for the worse. Hopefully he'll get a good sendoff from the guys/girls he used to race against

Very sad to hear about Andrew. Had many beers with him sat at the Whitstable Yacht Club bar. Great character and friend.

Andrew's funeral will be on Friday 27 April at 1320hrs at Barham Crematorium and afterwards at Whitstable Yacht Club.

The wake for Andrew will now be held at the Old Coach & Horses in Whitstable. The club will be hosting the 505 Nationals that day and it has not been possible to accomodate both events at the same time
