MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Scottish Merlins 2016 (and them oop nooorth)

Hi all, I've just sent this out to the Scottish Merlins email list about events for this year. Comments from sailors in the North of England are welcome, especially if you'd like to come to an event or 2! Happy to help accommodate travellers (of the sailing variety) where possible. Ask for my email if you want added to the info distribution list.

Please see the following proposed programme for sailing this year. I've added comments about dates and venues. All are club open events, and some have been chosen as being desirable for people potentially travelling from the north of England. Please email comments back to me asap so that I can get a firmed up version sent to Alan Henderson at Yachting Life and also do up a nice preview article.

(Largs Warm-up Series, 21st Feb to 27th March on Sundays. Great racing, I'm doing the first and last at least in 3376).

23/4 April - Loch Earn Early Open Regatta. Stunning venue, and there's a wooden Canterbury Tales owned by a club member there.

(30 April, 1/2 May - Rutland training and Silver tiller for those interested. I'm planning on going if I can get crew)

4/5 June - Toward Sailing Club Regatta, Kyles of Bute. Another lovely venue, and friendly club.

25/26 June - Largo Bay Open Regatta. A big regatta on the Forth, good open water sailing.

(2/3 July - Lord Birkett Ullswater. A HUGE regatta fleet, is anyone interested in this one? I'm thinking about it seriously)

27/28 August - Largs Cumbraes Weekend. Great one for variety including the Round Cumbraes race on the Sunday. A few N England boats interested in this one.

10/11 September - Holy Loch SC City Regatta. Pretty venue, easy to get to from the south, spiritual home of the Merlins in Scotland. Clashes with the Ex Champions event and 70th party down south so this one may not work?

There is a Silver Tiller event at Abersoch on the same weekend as Loch Lomond, and I expect most Prime of Life boats which might otherwise have been tempted up here will go to that instead, hence Cumbraes and Holy Loch.

I'm also considering 8/9 October at Hollingworth Silver Tiller to finish, in case anyone wants to join. There may be some more Prime of Life boats there.

Comments please! Or an indication of what you might attend...

Best wishes,

Andy
