It's generally a bit later in the year that the booking opens from previous experience. As for accommodation - the upmarket option is local B&B's. There are bunk rooms on site, choose your room-mates carefully, the knack is getting the correct dose of alcohol on board so you fall asleep before the snoring starts. I have camped in the adjoining field to avoid the trumpeting but it can be REALLY cold in Rutland in early May you need a good sleeping bag etc.
