Topic : Spinnaker poles

Hi all, I'm looking at either purchasing or making a new single pole for a Smokers and was wondering what people have done in the past? I can get a SuperSpars tapered one for around 80 quid, but reckon I could build one for a lot less. What diameter tube would be best, and thickness?  I had in mind 38mm and 2mm thickness. Ends could be 32mm and I would 'cast' epoxy/microfibre adapters in place. I think all that would come to around 40 quid. Proctor do adapters for 38mm poles but this would add 20 quid to the price, and I want to do it cheaply.

Or is this madness?

Probably do not want to, but you could use tv aerial mast pole. I have had to use it in the past when I couldn't afford 'real' poles.  If uphaul is at end of pole you do not have to worry about bending forces.

There used to be a plethora of old carbon single poles kicking around in peoples garages after everybody upgraded to to twin set ups. You might be lucky if you ask the right question......
