I have recently bought an old plastic NSM2 with metal spars for pottering around the back of the fleet on the river at UTSC with my 10 year old daughter who is new to sailing. The existing mainsail needs replacing and after looking at various websites and the MROA Forum, concluded that sail selection appears to be a bit of a science and possibly needs to be matched to the rig.
Whilst at this stage I would prefer to buy second-hand, I contacted 3 sail lofts for advice and one just suggested that I change my rig for carbon (not an option). This got me thinking whether second-hand sails advertised through MROA For Sale pages would be suitable / compatible for my rig and whether sail material, cut, age, etc. really makes a difference for my novice ability, location and expected (light) winds? Thanks for any advice David
