Basically
I am running a crew training course at Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club in the second half of March. It is aimed at new members who have probably only just done an RYA Level 1/Level 2 course as we feel these are very helming orientated. I am looking if anybody can point me in the direction of any videos which shows crews in action in any double hander non-trapeze boat or any other training material which people think could be useful.
Background
Over the years, HLSC has trained many good young Merlin Rocket crews such as Chris Robinson, Rosie Richards,
Beccie Jones, Ellie Bremer and some of them have even gone on to do a bit of helming, Stu Bithell and Matt Mee. However none of them now live close to the Club and so we have switched attention in the last couple of years to Adult Training of people who live local and are likely to stay local. This has proved quite successful with some mid age guys buying boats, (at present mainly single handers), but we feel we need to encourage some of the younger people or females more. Whilst many of us learnt by just being dropped in the front end of boat, it seems many people nowadays feel that they need to have some form of training first.
I am looking at 3 themes for the course;
Becoming a good dinghy crew, predict not react
Spinnaker handling
Actions of a racing crew
I am not wanting shots of planing in Force 6, I am looking for good sections of crew movement, tacking gybing, spinnaker handling etc. Duncan Salmon's shots on Youtube with 2 cameras in the boat are great, but for beginners I could do with less capsizing. (Duncan, do you have any more?) Paul Brown's drone shots of Salcombe are also very useful in part and that technique could produce a really good training video (hint). I know there are some sections from a Rutland Training week which could be of some help. What else is available?
Final questions
What is a good low cost program for downloading videos of YouTube which is advertisement and virus free?
What is a good simple video editing program, if I just want to link bits together.
If I get something good together, I will pass it on to anybody wishing to do a similar idea.
