It's not an NSM4 so though may have had Shadowfax stencilled on the side I don't think it's that one. What a mess!! About the only item worth rescuing is the mint humbug rudder blade the rest looks much too far gone.

This is Shadowfax but is 1839, a Proctor IX built by Bob Board in 1965. It would seem that the naming gods slipped up and allowed a later NSM to come along with the same name. She was sailed at Banbury SC by the late John Bonete and his wife Sylvia. She won the Midday series at the club in 1984.

She is instantly recognisable by the rudder and the green paint job. John bought a job lot of Woolworth's gloss green with which he painted all the hulls of his boats. John sold her in the early 90s to a guy from Leamington who sailed her spasmodically at Banbury until the late 90s/early 2ks. She gradually deteriorated in the boat park until he took her away in the early 2ks to do some repairs - not seen since but looks as though she has been sitting in his garden since then.

A big restoration job for somebody!

Mags - might be a source of a hog stepped mast for you.

You will probably still be waiting for an answer next year. Use the details in the MR Yearbook that is why they are there.

Join the class association and you will get a yearbook with all members names, addresses and phone numbers. I wrongly assumed that you were already a member - see elsewhere on this site for details. Only costs £25!!

Yeah - get Megan to give him a reminder. We should also be getting the 2014 YB soon so that could be why Megan's owner did not send you one.

yes you are right Jez : BUT, can't let her vanish without a fight, can we!!!
at least down here there is space : so if i do win future is sorted
i'll find somebody with space (twisted arms!!) to store her under cover for free until i or someone else gets round to her
if the restoration isn't feasible then both the others need fittings so they will all get used in Merlins anyway!!

and yes i will notify you as appropriate

Jez : thinking aloud : can you tell from the Yearbook who has got the rest of the Adur 7's - i need to get in touch with one or most to get to look at an intact one to see the deck layout : all i have at the moment is a "box of bits!"

yes please : note though, if anybody wants her - in the meanwhile, til i get round to her - just call!!
(i'm picking her up this weekend from Leamington Spa so any local help would be appreciated to get her onto the truck since i can't trust her trailer to make it back here!!)

i'm back with Shadowfax (No 1)- doesn't look good though - up early this morning to collect with a neighbour and truck - the good news is that the trailer towed back "light" behind the truck so that'll be ok also the rudder - but Shadowfax is in a very poor state : the hull was full of rotted tarp and generally grotty : but i'll evaluate properly in the morning and get my resident marine chippie to have a look also : i do have somewhere to put her in the dry so we'll see - ok for a progress report??

Having had another look at the photos, I'd have to agree that it does'nt look like an NSm, but something much earlier.

Don't you already have 2 boats on the go at the moment Peter?!

It would be good if the winning bidder, whom ever that ends up being, would let me know if it is destroyed or repaired so I know where to put it in the yearbook.

My records only show 2 out of 35 owned by members. Pete Walker at Upper Thames has 1700 and Phil Plumtree has 1631 at Thamesis.
