Topic : 1960. Weymouth Nationals results'

Does anyone possess the full results record for the 1960 nationals at Weymouth?

I am interested in sail no. 1085 as sailed by my late father in law Robin Powell.

Any info on this and the Bognor Merlin fleet late 1950's/early 1960's gratefull receieved.

I sailed at Bognor from the 50's to the 80's. I knew Robin "Uffa" Powell well. It was the era of Roger Board, David Colley, Alan Simpson' Dennis Ellis and later the late George Slack - National champion in the 60's. It was also the home of Ned Sparrow. Alan Simpson knows the history well and I will ask him to contact you. Alan and I were both Commodores of the Club in that period.

Don't forget the great Gavin Moy and Freddie Burbidge! Haven't played tiddlywinks since those days, or croquette!!

Blame spellchecker! Obviously I mean croquet, a game played on a lawn with wooden balls, hoops and mallets.

Of course Barry meant croquet. Don't forget shove half penny and Black Friday sailed on the day before the once mighty Bognor Barrel. Great days but alas Ned Freddie and Gavin have joined the Merlin fleet in the clouds.

Wow! Sincere thanks all!!

Sadly Robin Powell passed away on the 11th March 2013 in Derriford hospital; his daughter Fiona, my wife, sails with me in Merlin 3698: "Uppashade 11".

I will pass your welcome feedback to his widow, Prudence Powell (nee Wright).

Best wishes

Graham and Fiona.
