No, not that sort!---I have just acquired 3396,a Turner NSM4, and would like to bring her up to the concours condition of 3031 which I have owned for 34 years. The hull shell is in nice order inside and out but the decks have been sanded and 2pot varnished without removal of all the old varnish leaving a patchy appearance of fresh and faded mahogany. Any advice on stripping would be greatly appreciated! |
I used a product called Peelaway which is put on as a poultice then a plastic type blanket covers it to prevent it drying out. I left this on my merlins deck overnight then found the old varnish came of with a scraper easly. Its Barretine Products ltd St Ivel Way Warmley Bristol email [email protected] tel 01179600060. Dark or discoloration on the wood I used Oxalic Acid which I got from A G Wood care products Unit 3, Wellington Rd Bidford on Avon B50 4Jh tel 01789778628, this used with care brought the deck up as new. |
Many thanks ,Gerry. Ill give it a whirl. |
I know this is an old thread but this boat (3396) is currently up for sale and I was hoping to find some history. Did you go ahead with the restoration in 2012? Any info would be much appreciated. |
