MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Goodwood Revival

Hello all.

Well the Nationals is over for another year, and those of us with a prediliction for fine machinery as well as fine dinghies are again amassing at Goodwood on the weekend of the 16th-18th of September.

For those who don't know this is a fantastic celebration of racing motorcycles, cars, and 'planes from the late 30s to the early 70s. Some seriously flash metal on display. Highlights this year include 12 Spitfires in formation on the Sunday, almost all Lightweight E-type Jags racing etc etc. The sounds, smells and sights are truly not to be missed!

Andrea and I are attending on both the Saturday and Sunday, and would be keen to meet-up with those of you who are heading down. As far as I know potential attendees are:

Dirtyhands
Gurn
Dan
Ross and Kelly
Pat and Jilly - I'm sure you can get it going Pat!
Some Dalby representatives
Mike
Ian

Anyway, the more the merrier!

PS if you have period metal, it is strongly recommended to bring it with you. Oh, and dressing-up is mandatory. Submarines not included.

Unfortunately it clashes with the Thames 'A' Rater open meeting at Tamesis which is always worth watching.

I had an MGC for about 13 years which I bought with the help of a well known member of the class. It has a monster 3 litre engine in an MGB body and I used to take it to events like Goodwood. In 1997 I sold it to Laurie Smart who has kept it in immaculate condition ever since.

Robert,

Your old MG that Laurie now owns still looks outstanding as I saw him in it the other week whizzing around Haywards Heath looking very dapper, whats better he still tows a Merlin behind it!

Not just an MGCGT but a University Motors special with some tweaks to the engine and some unique modifications that turn the usual pathetic bench for midgets into a vaguely useable back seat.

You always wonder what would have happened if cars like that had actually been built properly & marketed properly. I suppose in that hypothetical parallel universe MG would still have ended up being sold to the Chinese but at least as a going concern.

Mmmm.. my 6 ft. daughter Jane did once squeeze into the back seat and travelled for a few miles in great discomfort. My problem with the MGC was that I had no experience of dealing with rampant rust and other MG problems. Laurie had already renovated half a dozen MGBs when he bought my car which is why this 40 year old MGC is in such good condition today.

Hi Chris, Despite all correct period machines being in commission, she who must be obeyed says that I must be doing some decorating (that means that I will probably be sorting out my spinnaker chute whilst hiding in the garage!). Anyway, I doubt if The Gurn has stocked up his pantry yet and would prefere Friday so that we don't have to take turns breathing in and out. Have a great time and best regards to your father and the "regulars"
