MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Growing Merlin Fleet Hayling Island Sailing Club & Winter Series

The Merlin Fleet has now grown to a total 12 boats.
Merlin turn outs and socials are excellent with many locally owned boats ensuring a consistant and high number at the start line.

The clubs open winter series starts 16/17 October and runs to Christmas for the sum of £30 including secure boat parking and opportunity for great socials. Two confirmed winter visitors means local Merlin competition should be good.

A warm welcome will be guaranteed and give an early opportunity to learn the waters for the Nationals! Accomodation can always be sorted for those travelling further distances.

If you want more info see club web site, contact me at the above e mail address or of course GGGGGGG

I can't find a list of dates on the HISC website Rod.
Is it all high water, in the harbour?

I see the Chichester's Snowflake is split into pre- and post Xmas, so will the Hayling Merlins be supporting them in Jan and Feb?

Hi Chris, the races are every Sunday with 11:00 start and courses set for sufficient depth, there may also be excursions into the bay subject to tide, sailors requests and suitable conditions.

Last year the hayling Merlins did the HISC winter series up to Xmas and I believe a few made the trip to some of the Snow flake but the severe winter weather put most of us off!!!With a better winter I would expect some of the keener end of the fleet to support the Snowflake post Christmas. For me it depends how much pressure is exerted to get on with house decorating!!!! So I will be doing some, but not all of the post Xmas snow flake.

I tend to do the snowflake as it starts as the silver tiller finishes and goes all winter. Normally a few Merlins down there and it is a great club. I would do Hayling but the first few weekends clash with the ST and it still leaves me with nothing to do Jan - March.

For those with no sailing from Jan to March, Tamesis will be running their Tamesis Travellers trophy over that period, open to all, and with two races each Sunday, a shortish one at 10.30 and a longer one starting at 11.15. All welcome
