See link.

Is it just me or do you also think it would be much more exciting if they just did it in a couple of larks or fireflies?

what can i say. The AC continues to be totally irrelevant to 99.9% of the worlds recreational sailors.

It's becoming about as relevant as drag racing is to motor sport - a curiosity. Louis Vuitton Cup is the way to go.

Interesting really. I enjoyed some of the proper match racing of the original Kiwi win and even a couple of times ago with the good computer graphics but last time what was that? Even the match racing, as a spectator sport, it really isn't on the money.

So where does the interest come from? I think it just goes to show the power of the corporate entertainment machine. Hype it up a lot then have a few drinks and pretend you are cool watching some really rich people spend loads of money. A bit of personal and corporate Kudos through brand association?

Beats me.

And the miles of journalistic twaddle on the subject that has such a limited interest no wonder no emany buy the yachting magazines any more you would think with all his knowledge and contacts Bob Fisher could find something else to write about.

Perhaps the billionaires are so out of touch with real yacht racing that they don't realise that compared with most recent America's Cup contests what they served up in Febuary this year was rubbish. Perhaps they don't care because we few yotties are not the market they're after. I suggest that the exciting marketing phrases like 'action-packed', 'transformed media', 'One global website' etc. are aimed at a different sort of sports fan.

I know cats are fast in straight line, but surely for the purpose of match racing mono hulls are far more agile and should therefore produce closer more exciting racing? The same goes for the wing mast, not to mention that in the real world how many boats actually use a wing mast at the moment?

I thought they were heading in the right direction with the Louis Vuitton and the one design mono hull. Oh well, none of us will get to see it anyway as it will only make Sky sport 1032 at 2am in the morning!

AD - I've still got a couple of wing masts in stock - do you think there might now be a market for them? Fully developed and tested they must be worth a couple of hundred quid - that should help keep the AC budget down!
