Can anyone tell me the current owners of these Merlin's and their locations.

Thanks in advance

Hi Stuart, I completly refurbished Boomjack about 3 years ago and sold her to a guy at Goring on Thames. I can't remember his name and despite asking him to join the association he never did. I can only hope that she is still in good order as she was immaculate when I let her go.

The last record in the MROA Year Books was in 1997 when 3106 Eureka was at Ranelagh. Perhaps their club records or a RSC member might be able to tell you where she went from there.

Stuart now Tony reminds me I saw Eureka hoisted up at the back of the Ranelagh boatshed 2-3 years ago - pretty sure it was Eureka anyway, a blue Smokers.

I recently bought Eureka 3106. It is still based at Ranelagh, though no longer just hoisted up in the rafters but being sailed. Goes beautifuly, although could do with a better helm. It helps to have Joh Stokes (how had her built) giving guidance.

Brian - I'm pleased to hear she is still sailing and being enjoyed. I owned Eureka twenty years ago a raced her at Hampton SC. I wanted to locate Eureka and buy her for my kids who are keen sailors. May be you could give me 'first refusal' when you decide to upgrade?

The chances are that I will donate her to the RSC, but if not then certainly. We were out yesterday and managed to turn her completely turtle, which displayed the beautifuly repaired smooth centreboard. Cause of this event turned out to be a loose pin in the rudder so lost control on a downwind surf. Almost impossible to empty even on a reach, so ended up entertaining the crowds at South Bank SC.
Do you know who removed the thwarts?

I did! I wanted it to look like all other smokers at that time and having extra seating wasn't a good idea in the eyes of a 20 year old.

And now the years have moved on.... but I am not sure if I'll put them back in yet. I have had some old hands helping and slowly building speed, or should that be building slow speed! I'll post some images up when I finish the decks and internal varnishing. It is going to be a long winter!

I'm sure you are aware the additional seating isn't on standard Rowsell Smokers and was a request by John Stokes when the she was built. Good luck with the refurb and I look forward to seeing Eureka emerge from the sheds in the Spring!
