Topic : Spinnaker Power reducing line ?

Spinnaker Power reducing line.

I have just had a weekend down in the west Country, and was pleased to see a Merlin racing. However I was interested to see how the down haul was being used and was wondering if this is a new development, either to :-

a) Stabilize the spinnaker to stop it swinging from side to side.
b) As a power reducing devise to shorten the windward leech
c) Or knowing the person sailing the boat, Some other devious scheme

The down haul was fed from the centre of the spinnaker round inside the sheets and pole, and then down through the chute.

I would welcome any further thoughts on this, and how it is controlled, especially from anyone in the boat itself.

Sounds more as though the boat was rigged while nursing a hangover....

Been there, done that!

Come on, there must be more to it than that. surely no one in the Merlin class drinks to excess, or has hang over’s, not from such a fine and upstanding professional group.

Measurement Man hit the nail on the head..................

Memo to self - a 3 ltr box of vin rouge 'tween 3 people followed by sloe gin chasers on a Friday night = inability to rig a kite and slow sailing on a Saturday!!!!!!!!
