Topic : Shrouds on Old Boat

After some more advice please.

Having deck stepped my old boat 908 I am in the throws of fit out and wondered if there was any reason why I should not have adjustable shrouds as opposed to stay adjusters fixed to ribs below deck?

The boat has 2 king posts and I have plenty of ball blocks for the job, just felt that having an adjustable rig is more convenient than fixed. Obviously there will be loads on the rig but nothing like the modern jobbies, plus she will only be sailed in 'kind' weather conditions! Structurally the boat has had a complete overhaul with lots of epoxy as part of my renovation programme so no apparent problems on that front!

(Pat Blake - I am writing an article on the renovation of 908 for the mag. Will be in two parts so will forward Part 1 soon).

Thanks in advance

I'm sure there is no reason why not. I am in a similar position, though my boat is slightly newer. I would suggest that you beef up the deck where you put the turning blocks, I epoxied a 5mm tufnol plate under the deck to take the sheave box and routed right through. My tuppence worth.

One other question. As my boat is now deck stepped could it have centre strop arrangement as opposed to transom or does it not really matter either way?

Thanks again.
